Moving Adverse Drug Events Data to Action

The Illinois Health and Hospital Association (IHA), in conjunction with the Cynosure Hospital Quality Improvement Contractors (HQIC) and the Florida Hospital Association, hospitals and quality improvement champions wish to learn more about the importance of collecting and using Adverse Drug Event (ADE) data to drive quality improvement. Specifically, ideas and insights about ways to engage patients and their family in quality and patient safety initiatives to reduce ADEs and improve health outcomes in hospitals. Highlight how patient voice can support quality improvement work, particularly as it relates to ADEs

We are looking for people with patient experiences with Adverse Drug Events to give a recorded interview. In this interview, the PFA will discuss the importance of engaging patients and families in quality and patient safety initiatives to reduce ADEs and improve health outcomes in hospitals.

Questions for consideration:

• How has an adverse event that occurred in the hospital impacted you/your family member?
• What is one thing the hospital could/should have done to engage you/your family member to prevent the event from occurring?
• Have you been able to engage with your local hospital to provide input on their quality improvement work? And can you share what that experience has been like?
• If you could offer hospitals one piece of advice for engaging patients and their family members what would it be?

If you're interested in participating in an interview, please email Laura Jackson.
